The information below is designed to help you prepare for the expanded student test engagement capability launching in MAP® Growth™ for fall 2019. Please consider this as part of your preparation for next school year and share this information with your colleagues.
Expanded student test engagement capability coming in July 2019
When students are motivated to perform on tests, they tend to do better. If they disengage during a test by rapid-guessing excessively on questions, their performance can be misrepresented.
That’s why we’re expanding the student test engagement capability in MAP Growth in July 2019 for fall testing. Learn more about the features and benefits and check out other student test engagement resources at our new Student Test Engagement Resources page. We will post additional resources to this page as they become available.
Considerations that will help you prepare
As we approach July 2019, you can prepare for the new student test engagement functionality by considering impacts to your training, policies, and MAP Growth configuration. Specifically, you can:
- Plan to cover the student test engagement capability in your fall 2019 MAP Growth training plan. It will be especially important to support proctors in understanding the new auto-pause feature. As we get closer to July, we’ll post resources, including videos, at the Student Test Engagement Resource page to support your training efforts.
- Assess your district’s retesting policy. When students rapid-guess on 30 percent or more of the total test questions, tests will not be terminated or invalidated, but NWEA® strongly recommends retesting these students. The expanded student test engagement capability will make it easier to identify and retest these students. If you wish to allow these students to retest, evaluate whether your district and/or state testing policies allow for this and make any necessary changes.
- Ensure your test restrictions in MAP Growth reflect your retesting policy. System administrators and district assessment coordinators should review this guidance document to learn how to allow—or not allow—retesting of students who reached the 30 percent threshold for excessive rapid guessing. This may involve changing your “district’s retesting rules (definition of tested)” configuration in MAP Growth, which requires contact with NWEA.
