With some schools considering early start options this year to help make up lost instructional time due to COVID-19 school closures, we wanted to ensure partners have clear guidance and understanding regarding the related testing terms and considerations for early testing.
MAP Growth/ MAP Growth K-2:
There are a number of major data updates coming to MAP Growth within the July 2020 software release, including the 2020 norms updates and MAP Growth K-2 scale maintenance.
Because of these updates, and the potential impact on fall testing data and reports, NWEA is recommending that partners do not test with MAP Growth or MAP Growth K-2 for fall before August 1st.
If schools want to test with MAP Growth earlier than August 1, 2020, those tests would be considered summer term. These summer term tests could be used for instructional decisions but reports for these tests would not have normative data since we do not currently have summer norms data in the MAP Growth reporting system.
Fall term testing would need to occur after August 1 and would then leverage the new norms and the K-2 scale maintenance benefits.
MAP Reading Fluency:
There are also a number of updates coming to MAP Reading Fluency with the July 2020 software release. As part of the July release new content will be published and performance expectations will be set for the fall term.
Because of these updates, and the potential impact, NWEA is recommending that partners do not test with MAP Reading Fluency for fall before August 1st.
