How to run a trace route command

Introduction
A trace route command can be used to detect any network sluggishness between your machine and the MAP Growth servers.

Steps
Depending on your computer's operating system the instructions for running a trace route can vary. Please see the instructions below for your operating system:

Lockdown Browser v. 5.0.185.0 or higher (Windows only):

  1. While the Lockdown Browser is open, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+S.
  2. The System Health and Diagnostics window appears.
  3. Open the Diagnostic Tools tab.
  4. Select Trace route.
    • Ping test and Running processes are also available on this tab.
  5. Select Run Diagnostics.
  6. The results of the trace route appear.
  7. Select Copy to Clipboard or Save to File to save the results.
  8. Click OK to dismiss the System Health and Diagnostics window.

 
Windows XP:

  1. From a command prompt (Start > Run > cmd), enter the following command: tracert test.mapnwea.org
  2. Once the trace route completes, right-click on the window and click Select All. This will copy the contents to your clipboard and the box contents will turn white with black text.
  3. Go to the document you want to put the results into, right-click, and select Paste (or press Ctrl+V).
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 with the following command: tracert cdn.mapnwea.org

 
Windows 7 and Vista:

  1. Click the Start menu and select All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
  2. Enter the following command: tracert test.mapnwea.org
  3. Once the trace route completes, right-click on the window and click Select All. This will copy the contents to your clipboard and the box contents will turn white with black text.
  4. Go to the document you want to put the results into, right-click, and select Paste (or press Ctrl+V).
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 with the following command: tracert cdn.mapnwea.org

 
Windows 10:

  1. Search for Command Prompt in the search box on the taskbar or locate it in the Start menu under the Windows System folder.
  2. Enter the following command: tracert test.mapnwea.org
  3. Once the trace route completes, click and drag to select the text of the trace route.
  4. Use the Ctrl+C keyboard shortcut to copy the text.
  5. Paste the text into a document by right-clicking and choosing Paste, or using the Ctrl+V keyboard shortcut.
  6. Repeat steps 1-5 with the following command: tracert cdn.mapnwea.org

 
Mac OS X:

  1. Open Terminal (located in Applications > Utilities).
  2. Enter the following command: traceroute test.mapnwea.org
  3. Click and drag to select the text in the Terminal window. Press Cmd+C to copy the contents to your clipboard.
  4. Go to the document you want to put the results into and press Cmd+V to paste.
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 with the following command: tracert cdn.mapnwea.org

 
Chromebook:

  1. Ctrl+Alt+T brings up Terminal
  2. Command to run: tracepath test.mapnwea.org
  3. Select the results of the trace route and press Ctrl+C, then paste the data into your document by pressing Ctrl+V.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 with the following command: tracert cdn.mapnwea.org
