Question
Which goal strands are included in MAP Skills? What skills are assessed?

Answer
MAP Skills assesses mathematics and English language arts skills aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) with three Skills Locators: mathematics, language usage, and reading.

Mathematics strands

The mathematics Skills Locator assesses 13 strands in mathematics, and each strand corresponds to a CCSS domain. To see the strands and skills associated with each strand, see Mathematics Skills in the MAP Help Center.

Language usage strands

The language usage Skills Locator contains four strands. To see the strands and individual skills associated with each strand, see Language Skills in the MAP Help Center.

Reading strands

The reading Skills Locator contains six reading comprehension strands, and an additional vocabulary strand. Grades 1 and 2 have an additional informational strand. Each reading strand assesses seven to nine skills within the context of a common stimulus passage. The skills apply to each strand and each grade, and as the student's reading level increases, the tasks assigned to each skill become more complex and challenging. To see the reading strands, skills associated with each strand, and details about how the skills change as complexity increases, see Reading Skills in the MAP Help Center.

Vocabulary strand

The vocabulary subject has just one strand: vocabulary. To see the individual skills, see Vocabulary Skills in the MAP Help Center.
