Introduction
Before administering a paper-pencil test, you will want to know what level the student is at. The locator test key is used to identify that level, and it ships with their testing material. This test is usually given to brand-new students.

Information
When we ship pre-printed answer sheets, we include a few blank answer sheets in case any sheets get damaged, or for any new students. You should use one of these sheets to test the student. The locator test is simply to determine a level for a student to be tested at. Locator tests are not processed at NWEA. You should have received a locator test key with your testing material. Use that key to determine levels for reading, language or math tests for the student.

Once a student has tested and received a valid score in a subject, future test levels will be determined by our leveling software so the student does not have to take a locator test again.
