August Partner Update

Back-to-school is as much a fresh start for teachers as it is for students, and we at NWEA® want to help you make a difference in your upcoming school year. The following outlines updates to MAP® Growth™ that should help you better guide your students to academic success, and make your fall testing process easier too. These changes are effective August 21st. And since you may be the only recipient of this email, please forward this email to teachers and other MAP Growth users within your district who might need this information.

Interested in Drilling Further to Support Students’ Specific Skill Needs?

We’re making it seamless with the new MAP Growth / MAP® Skills™ integration: This month, partners using both MAP Growth and MAP Skills will see data from both in the Student Profile report and can directly make skills assignments from within the Instructional Areas module. This integrated report provides valuable insight and tools to help teachers personalize instruction based on student's specific needs. (Note: If your school doesn’t already license MAP Skills, you won’t see any changes to the Student Profile report.)

For those partners using both programs, the module will show the familiar student scores for instructional areas in a left column and their progress through MAP Skills in those instructional areas in a right column. Clicking on the MAP Skills strand data in the right column will take you to the related "Strands Tested" view where you see additional skill data for the student. Clicking on the left column of data in an instructional area will open the Instructional Areas module as before, however effective August 28th, in addition to learning statements, teachers will have the ability to assign a MAP Skills assessment to either identify missing skills, check skills for mastery, or assign an online resource (such as Khan Academy) for personalized learning.

High School Math Tests – Now You Can Pre-Test in Fall!

This year brings exciting changes in your MAP Growth tests for high school math. The End of Course tests have been replaced with updated tests that can be given three times a year and include learning statements found in your Learning Continuum. You can now administer high school math tests for algebra 1 and 2, integrated math 1, 2, and 3, and geometry in the fall, then use the Learning Continuum to determine what your students are ready to learn and to check their progress at the middle and/or end of the year.

Help, My Student Has Disengaged! New Proctor Alerts Keep Kids on Track

To help keep all your students engaged, proctors will now be alerted if a student begins rapidly guessing while taking a MAP Growth test. Click here for the new NWEA resource to help guide proctors as they use this new tool. You can also find this information on the Proctor Tips and Troubleshooting page.

SAT Linking Study Helps Predict College Readiness

The NWEA research team has completed a study that predicts a student’s college readiness and performance on the SAT® based on their MAP Growth data. This new study is a great addition to our existing study predicting student performance on the ACT®. Later this fall, the College Explorer tool will also incorporate SAT scores.

New Operational Report: Students by District

A new report “Students by District” is now available in the Operational Reports module. The Students by District report contains demographic information for all students rostered in the district for the selected term. The report can be used to validate the student data rostered to your district and to identify student profiles that need to be updated.

Running the report will generate a spreadsheet (.csv file format) with one record per student with demographic data. The file does not contain Instructor or Class information.

Spanish Reading Screener Available for MAP Growth

For those with Spanish speaking students, you’ll be very excited about the availability of our new Spanish reading screener. The test is intended for Spanish-speaking students who are learning English; it reveals whether a student’s reading RIT score is negatively affected because they do not understand English. The screener is given three times per year for grades 2–8. Each administration is a grade-specific, fixed-form, 30-item test that provides a percent correct score, not a RIT score. The assessment is available as an add-on to your regular MAP Growth license, contact your local Partner Accounts representative for more information.

Updated System Maintenance Window in the Community

The monthly platform and software maintenance windows page includes all the dates for scheduled maintenance and software updates through the end of 2017. We recommend you refer to the schedule prior to testing to ensure no changes have been made. (Pro-tip: bookmark this page for future reference)

Please note: The standard maintenance window for August has been extended five hours, ending Sat., August 19th at 3:00pm PDT. Additionally, reporting for MAP Growth will also be unavailable August 25th from 5:00pm – 7:00pm PDT while we complete the additional enhancements to the Student Profile report.
