Symptom
When creating or editing a user, you receive the error message "A profile for this user already exists and cannot be duplicated."

Explanation
This error occurs if a user profile already exists with the same first name, last name, and instructor ID. The error will also include information about the existing duplicate profile:

Solution
To resolve this issue:
  • If you are creating a new profile, and you wish to use the existing profile instead:
    1. Select Cancel and Return to Search Results.
    2. Search for and modify the existing profile instead.
  • If you are modifying a profile, and you wish to use the existing profile instead:
    1. Select Cancel and Return to Search Results.
    2. Follow the steps in How to correct duplicate users in MAP.
  • If you are creating or modifying a profile, and the existing duplicate profile is incorrect and you do not want to use it, follow these steps:
    1. Select Return to User Profile.
    2. Temporarily change or remove the Instructor ID.
    3. Click Submit to preview your changes, then click Submit again to save.
    4. Follow the steps in How to correct duplicate users in MAP to inactivate or delete the unwanted profile.
    5. Return to the correct profile and fix the instructor ID that you changed or removed in step 2. You should now be able to save and use the profile as expected.
