Question
What does it mean when a learning statement in the learning continuum refers to vocabulary in a "grade band"?

Answer
Some example learning statements with this terminology are:
  • Applies knowledge of affixes to determine the meaning of a word in the 2‑5 grade band
  • Applies knowledge of Greek or Latin roots to determine the meaning of a word in the 2‑5 grade band

These learning statements refer to words that are categorized as appropriate for students in one of grades in the grade band. NWEA uses the listings published in EDL Core Vocabularies, an industry standard for correlating vocabulary with the grade level at which words are introduced.

You can find this information and more in the MAP Help Center: Learning Continuum. See the FAQ section at the bottom of the linked page.
