Symptom
When importing a roster file, you get the error "School State Code cannot match more than one school in your district".

Explanation
This error occurs if two different schools have the same school state code. This error can also occur if your school state code is the same as your school's Custom Name in the MAP system.

Solution
Note: Only schools and districts that are part of a special state program need to use the school state code field when importing a roster. If you are not sure if you need to use this field, please contact NWEA Partner Support or your Account Manager.

To resolve this issue:
  1. Check your file to see if any other schools have the same school state code. See How to use Excel filtering to resolve file format errors.
  2. Check whether your school's Custom Name in your MAP preferences matches the school state code:
    1. In the MAP Administration and Reporting Center (MARC), select Modify Preferences > Modify District.
    2. In the Schools section, locate the school in question.
    3. If the Custom Name and School State Code fields are identical, select the school and choose Edit Name and State Code.
    4. Enter a new Custom Name. Do not change the school state code.
    5. Click Submit to make the changes, then retry your import.
  3. If the issue persists, contact NWEA Partner Support.
