Question
Does MAP Skills use the overall RIT or instructional area score when RIT score is selected as a Skills Locator starting point? How does MAP Skills then determine the starting grade level of test items for the locator?

Answer
With RIT score selected as a Skills Locator starting point, MAP Skills looks at the instructional area score related to the strand that was selected when the Skills Locator was assigned. It takes the median of the instructional area RIT range and compares it to the NWEA Norms Study. The algorithm chooses items from the grade level that corresponds to the RIT at the 50th percentile median.
