It may be summer break for your students, but we know you’re already hard at work planning for their return this fall. And so are we. The following updates to MAP® Reading Fluency™—which enhance and improve the student testing experience as well as educator reporting—are effective July 20.
iPad support now available
An updated app for MAP Reading Fluency will be available for download from the iTunes App store after July 20. If you plan to utilize iPad devices for student testing, please make sure you have downloaded the latest version of the app.
Chrome browser testing
If you are not testing on iPad, MAP Reading Fluency requires Chrome for browser-based testing. Due to known issues with the current Chrome browser, and a pending Chrome browser update, student testing in MAP Reading Fluency should not be started until after the new Chrome version (68) is released and available July 24.
You can check which version of Chrome you’re using by going to the Chrome menu at the top left of your screen and selecting “About Google Chrome”. You can check on updates from Google here.
Reports now show Lexile reading level
Instructional reading levels for students who read passages will now be based on Lexile®. In addition to the Lexile range for instructional reading level, the Lexile level for each passage read will be shown in the student report and a Lexile level for each student will display on the student matrix.
Increased foundational skills coverage and reporting
Students who take the foundational skills portion of the assessment will see a broader range of foundational reading skills, including blending, segmenting, decoding, and encoding. The test will adapt within the phonological awareness and phonics and word recognition skills to provide progression-based reporting and ZPD identification. The adaptation within the foundational skills provides the enhanced instructional information for teachers while keeping the test to an efficient 20-minute length.

Enhanced student matrix
The student matrix is getting a refresh and update as well. The easy-to-read and color-coded matrix has been updated to reflect the core assessment components of the adaptive MAP Reading Fluency test. In addition to the color blocks, a letter will also display to indicate if the student is approaching (A), meeting (M), exceeding (E) or below (B) expectations. All columns remain sortable making it easy to group similar students for small group and individual instruction.

Report printing just a click away
Teachers now have print capability for the student matrix and the individual student reports, including support for printing in color or black and white.
Accessing 2017/18 student data
If your students participated in the early adopter program, their records from the 2017/18 school year will remain accessible from the individual student report pages. Audio playback will be available for these records allowing this year’s teacher to hear last year’s reading. However, please note that the review link to the hand-scoring page for prior year records will be disabled so you will no longer be able to view the passage text or download the audio for the prior year records. If you wish to hand-score, view passage text, or download audio records from 2017-18, please do so before July 20, 2018.
