How to set the microphone as the default listening device

Introduction
In MAP Reading Fluency, the microphone check might fail if the student's headset microphone is not set as the default recording device.

Information
To set the headset microphone as the default device, follow the steps below for the operating system the student is testing on.

 
Windows

  1. Go to the Control Panel.
  2. Select Hardware & Sound.
  3. Choose Sound.
  4. View the Playback tab and verify that the student's headset is the default device. The default device has a green check mark next to it.
  5. View the Recording tab and verify that the student's headset is the default device. The default device has a green check mark next to it.
  6. To change the default device, click the device and select Set Default.

 
Mac

  1. Go to System Preferences.
  2. Choose Sound.
  3. View the Output tab and verify that the student's headset is highlighted.
  4. View the Input tab and verify that the student's headset is highlighted.
  5. To set the student's headset as the default device, highlight the device in either the Output or Input tab as necessary.
  6. Ensure the mute check box next to the Volume slider is not selected.

 
Chromebook

  1. Click on the system tray.
  2. Click on the Headphones icon next to the Volume slider.
  3. Check under the Input and Output headings to verify that the student's headset is the selected device. The selected device has a green check mark next to it.
  4. To change which device is selected, click on the device you wish to use.

 
iPad

  1. Swipe up from the bottom edge of any screen to open the Control Center.
  2. Touch and hold the audio card, which should be the card in the upper-right corner.
  3. Tap the AirPlay button airplay icon to see your devices.
  4. Choose your headset in the list of devices.
