Can students skip a question if they have no clue on how to answer it?
Thanks for your question, Sharon. Are you referring to MAP Growth or another assessment? Students must answer every question in MAP Growth, even if they don't know the answer. There's no way to skip an item and return to it later like you can with some tests. MAP Growth is a computer-adaptive tests, so questions will get harder when they answer items correctly and easier when they answer incorrectly. We advise students to always do their best. Here's the warm-up video we created for students. Any other tips, Yvonne Sorenson, Virginia Williams Jane Nuessen?
Thank you for posting such an important question. As Marziah explained, students cannot skip questions in the MAP Growth assessments. This is sometimes confusing for students because skipping a question that you don't know an answer to is a strategy that we teach students. Because of this, it is very important to prepare students for this difference. Another element to this conversation is that students also need to know that they are expected to miss questions on this test, because the test is designed to not only tell teachers what students know, but also what they don't know. This is the foundation for identifying the Learning Continuum statements that a student is ready to learn. Preparing students ahead of time for these differences, reduces test anxiety and encourages students to do their best work, because they know that the teacher is planning to use the results to guide their instruction.
