Is it appropriate for a special ed teacher for students who are CI to use NWEA MAP Growth but out of grade level? How should I respond to this teacher's request.
Hi Julie! In order to answer your question I am going to tag some of our NWEA staff members for help. They should be able to provide information concerning the use of MAP Growth with CI students. You may also find the NWEA-Accessibility-and-Accommodations-External-FAQ document helpful in addressing other accommodation questions with teachers. Stay tuned for more...

Hi Julie! I reached out to Elizabeth Barker who is an Accessibility Lead for NWEA. Her response to your question appears below. If you can provide answers to the items listed in her reply I can then give you further information.
"So this is a great question! First I would like to know whether the student is taking the alternative state assessment for their summative end of year test or is the student taking the Gen ed assessment with accommodations? This will help us determine whether MAP Growth is appropriate for this particular student or not. As you know our assessment is not aligned to alternative standards, so if the student’s work, instruction, and assessments are typically aligned to that alternative standards, then I would say MAP Growth may not be appropriate for them. That said, if the student’s work, instruction and assessments are aligned to the general standards and assessment with accommodations, then I would say MAP might be appropriate. If this is the case, I would like to know which accommodations the student needs, if any, and see if our MAP Growth offers those same accommodations." Elizabeth RG Barker, Ph.D. Accessibility Lead
This is great. Thank you. Our CI students take the alternative assessment so to Dr. Barker’s point the standards won’t align. I will share this with the teacher and principal.
Have a great day.
