Introduction
The Lockdown Browser installer contains an MSI, which can be extracted to enable you to more easily perform mass deployments across a district or school network. You may use a variety of software management solutions to deploy the Lockdown Browser across your district or school network.

Steps
While NWEA can provide information on extracting the MSI, we cannot provide assistance with deploying the MSI or using software deployment tools. This is considered an advanced installation technique.

Extracting the MSI from the command line:

If client machines already have the .NET 3.5 Client Profile installed, and you wish to use the MSI for installation, you can extract the MSI for use. To do so, from a command line:
  1. Open a Run window and type cmd to open the command line prompt:
    1. Type "path to installer here\Setup Lockdown Browser.exe"/b"path to extraction here"
    2. For example, if the .exe file is located at C:\ldbtest, and you want the MSI file to be extracted to the same location, the command would be:
    3. "C:\ldbtest\Setup Lockdown Browser.exe"/b"C:\ldbtest"
      • Note: Include the quotation marks!
  2. When you see the dialog box saying “Welcome to the Install Shield Wizard for Lockdown Browser”, cancel the installation. At this point you already have extracted the MSI file and probably don’t want to continue on to install the Lockdown Browser on this machine.
  3. Retrieve the MSI from the above specified location.

Running in silent mode from the command line:

Both the EXE and the MSI can be run in silent mode if you don’t wish the end user to be prompted.

MSI instructions:
  1. Uninstall any previous versions of the Lockdown Browser from the target computer.
  2. From a command line, use the command MSIExec /i "pathname\Lockdown Browser.msi" /qb ALLUSERS="1"
    • pathname is the path to the MSI location.
    • ALLUSERS="1" installs the Lockdown Browser in the standard location for all users of the computer. If you omit this, it will install to the logged-in user account on that machine.
EXE instructions:
  1. Uninstall any previous versions of the Lockdown Browser from the target computer.
  2. From a command line, use the command pathname\"Setup Lockdown Browser.exe" /V/qn /S
    • pathname is the path to the .exe location.
    • There is no space between /V and /qn.

Uninstalling the Lockdown Browser in silent mode using an MSI installer:

  1. From a command line, use the command MSIExec /x "pathname\Lockdown Browser.msi" /qn ALLUSERS="1"
    • pathname is the path to the MSI location.
    • ALLUSERS="1" uninstalls the Lockdown Browser from the standard admin location if you are an administrator on the target machine. Omitting this will uninstall the Lockdown Browser for the logged-in user.
