Can a student's RIT score or percentile help determine eligibility for Talented and Gifted programs?
While NWEA does not have a specific cut score or percentile to determine talented and gifted qualification, MAP Growth does provide substantial support for determining eligibility for gifted programs. It does not test creativity or multiple intelligences, but rather academic achievement. It is appropriate to use as part of a rubric for identifying potential talented and gifted students. Districts should use other evidence in conjunction with MAP Growth scores or percentiles to help identify these students such as state test scores, classroom work, tests and quizzes etc. for placement in these programs.
