Black screen on Chromebooks

Symptom
Chromebook screen goes to sleep or goes black during testing. Moving your finger on the track pad brings the screen back on, but if you don't keep moving your finger, the screen goes black again after about 5 to 10 seconds.

Explanation
This can happen if you are using the NWEA Secure Testing App for Chromebooks and the devices have been configured with the "Allow app to manage power" option turned on.

Solution
Users with Google Admin access can follow the steps below to turn this off:
  1. Log into admin.google.com 
  2. Select Devices.
  3. Select Chrome Management.
  4. Select Apps & Extensions.
  5. Select Kiosks at the top.
  6. Click on the NWEA Secure Testing logo. A window will open on the right with the kiosk settings for the app.
  7. Toggle the option Allow App to Manage Power.
  8. Click Save in the upper right.

The change should take effect immediately on the affected Chromebooks.
